The Code2Career Challenge is an exclusive opportunity for select Higher Ed schools to partner with Basta and Google and equip their undergraduate students with unmatched career preparation through G-SWEP (Google Software Engineer Program)

G-SWEP is a unique collaboration between Basta and Google that combines technical expertise with real-world career success and accelerates the path to tech jobs or internships for historically underrepresented groups in tech. Undergraduate students participate in a 10-week virtual experience, consisting of 1:1 mentorship from a dedicated Google Software Engineer (SWE) and live online workshops grounded in Basta’s best-in-class career navigation content and resources.

FAQs

What are the responsibilities and expectations of a G-SWEP higher ed Partner?

  • Promote G-SWEP to your CS students to build awareness and encourage applications

  • Create and manage student outreach channels

  • Pulse student outreach and reminders throughout G-SWEP via email and additional channels as available

  • Attend partner touchpoints (all virtual) 

    • Onboarding in December 2024

    • 2-3 check-ins between January - May 2025

    • Program wrap-up in June 2025

What is the target student audience
for G-SWEP?

  • G-SWEP is designed for undergraduates majoring in CS or related fields (eg: Data science, Information Systems, Engineering) and are interested in SWE/SWE-adjacent roles after graduation.

  • G-SWEP also seeks to support historically underrepresented groups in tech such as First-gen, BIPOC, and women.

What are the TECHNICAL selection criteria for students?

  • Enrolled in or completed Data Structures & Algorithms courses

  • Committed to spending ≥ 4 hrs/week coding

  • Familiar with coding languages like Java, C++, Python, Javascript, R, C, or C#

  • Able to meet virtually 1X/week for 10 weeks with Google SWE 

  • Able to demonstrate coding proficiency through CodeSignal test
