ABOUT THE ROLE
The External Engagement Manager will work alongside the CEO to attract, retain and grow a community of advocates, institutional partners, and individual donors. The Manager will be privy to and participate in meetings and conversations with potential supporters at any/all stages of the relationship lifecycle, from initial outreach to existing donors. The manager will leverage a variety of skills from developing creative engagement solutions to attract prospective supporters, to developing a communications system to ensure ongoing touchpoints with our existing base of supporters.
As the External Engagement Manager, you will have the opportunity to grow and deepen our relationships with an ecosystem of supporters; thus ensuring that we are well-resourced to scale our impact. To do so effectively, you’ll have to keep a solid pulse on what is happening in the organization while also keeping up-to-speed on the shifting external landscape. Your role will include:
Building and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders: You will lead and/or support ongoing management of relationships with BASTA’s existing and prospective funding community. At times, you will own the entire relationship life cycle, from pre-meeting research and preparation to post-meeting follow-up and ongoing engagement.
Improving and maintaining a relationship management system: You will assess and update BASTA’s funder management tool and be the primary person tracking ongoing cultivation with prospective and current partners.
Sourcing and managing a growing arsenal of outreach collateral: You will manage BASTA’s arsenal of outreach materials, ensuring we are continuously refreshing our content as our value proposition and offerings evolve.
Conducting ongoing research on new and existing stakeholders: You will conduct research at regular intervals and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospective leads for outreach and cultivation.
Writing proposals and briefs for grants: You will heavily support the CEO in developing proposals and grant reports; identifying opportunities for institutional funding, managing grant requirement reporting, and completely budget submissions.
On a typical day, you might:
Lead a working session with the CEO to evaluate outreach strategies and build a 3-month outreach plan
Support the CEO on a call with a prospective funder
Work with the Employer Success team to pull together a results one-pager for a current funder
Create a virtual “shadow afternoon” for a champion who wants to introduce BASTA to their extended network
Update prospecting tool with activities from the last week
Gather relevant documents for an upcoming grant submission

You understand that any type of stakeholder management is part art/part science and get the inherent value in using systems to track communications and outreach as part of an effective donor acquisition/cultivation strategy
You have outstanding attention to detail, strong organizational skills and a systems-mindset.
You take complete ownership over your work, but you’re not afraid to ask for help when you need it. You’re also willing to jump in wherever you’re needed.
You have 4-5 years experience, ideally a subset of that time spent in development or philanthropy
You’re comfortable working in a virtual environment using virtual communication/collaboration tools, including Google docs, Zoom, and Slack
You are based in or near New York City and will be available to be in-person when that is a reality again.
