Position Title: Content Manager
Position Type: Full-time Role
Salary: Range is between $60-$75k
Geography: The preferred location for this role is NYC although strong candidates based in other locations will be considered. All staff are currently working remotely and we are remaining responsive to the evolving pandemic

The Content Manager will play a critical role in driving the growth of Basta’s Career Readiness Diagnostic into an interactive, content-rich platform that helps accelerate the journey to career pathway first jobs for first-generation college students. The Career Readiness Diagnostic is a first-of-its-kind assessment - it is designed to locate students on their career readiness journey, optimized for use on mobile devices, and takes less than twenty minutes to complete. Students receive a customized individual report that provides tailored guidance on next steps in their career journey and has already been deployed and completed by thousands of students. In this next phase of growth, Basta is making significant investments in the technical infrastructure behind the Diagnostic and the platform that provides the end-user experience.   

As Basta’s Content Manager, you will bring your experience with user-centered design and excellent writing skills to develop engaging, interactive content and asynchronous virtual learning experiences for young people. Your deep curiosity and empathy will help you internalize Basta’s approach to career readiness and create content that is accessible, inspiring and actionable. You’ll bring the experience and lens to design content with gamification in mind. You will work with teammates across the organization to test new content with Basta participants and gather feedback. Your project management and organizational skills will help you keep track of multiple intersecting deliverables and nuanced layers of content customization.

You will play a role across:

  • Content Strategy: You will develop a guide to Basta’s “voice” for static and dynamic virtual content and maintain a database of industry-specific content to feed personalized results for young people

  • Content Development: You will write content for various formats, including static and help text, dynamic customized content for both students and staff, and instructional documents

  • Project Management: As part of a team of full-time staff members and contractors working on Basta’s Diagnostic, you’ll manage projects ranging from simple updates to existing reports to the testing and rollout of new versions

  • User-Testing: You will design and execute protocols to engage Basta participants in testing and providing feedback on iterations of Diagnostic results reports and other online learning modules

  • Continuous Improvement: Through your collaboration with other teams and regular contact with young people, you will identify opportunities for improvement in Basta’s content and UX and propose/implement strategies to address these areas


You could be our Content Manager if:

  • You believe deeply in the inherent value and potential first-generation students bring to the workplace and are excited to support them to achieve their career goals

  • You have 5+ years experience, which includes working with young people and/or developing content/curriculum for young people

  • You are a strong writer/communicator and editor and are comfortable adapting between multiple voices

  • You enjoy working collaboratively with others and you also know how to set yourself up for deep focus to make progress on independent deliverables  

  • You have outstanding organizational skills and know how to track moving pieces across various work streams

  • You’re a doer and a problem-solver with an eye for continuous improvement - you’re known for getting stuff done 

  • You’re comfortable working in a virtual environment using virtual communication/collaboration tools, including Google docs, Zoom, and Slack
